Event Photography: Health Care Reform in Vermont

August 31st, 2009

I just returned from visiting family in northern Vermont. While there, I attended U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders' health care reform town hall in the tiny (pop. 600) town of Peacham, VT. The event attracted around 600 people to the Peacham Congregational Church...

Since Vermont is a border state, a single payer health care system (like Canada's) is quite popular...

The news media also turned out. Here, a Vermonter shares her health care story with a WDEV-FM reporter...

After speaking to the overflow crowd outside the church, Sen. Sanders came inside. He gave a summary of what's been happening in Washington, then took public comments for more than two hours. And it's true what they say about town halls in New England. They're very polite. Even the people who disagreed with Sanders were respectful.

Bicycle Photography: Twilight Wheel Shadow

August 19th, 2009

On the lighting front, we're getting to an interesting part of the year. Tucson's days are getting shorter, but we're not seeing the weak twilight of the winter months.

In the hour before sunset, the sun's still showing strong light while casting long shadows. Here's a bicycling example...

Architectural Photography: Marist College

August 7th, 2009

The Marist College building used to house a Catholic boys school. After 1968, the Diocese of Tucson used it for office space. These days? Well, let's just say that it's just sitting there.

What's worse, the Marist College building is in danger of collapse. There is exterior bracing, not shown in this photo, but no one knows how long it will continue to support the structure...
