Event Photography: 2nd Saturdays Downtown

September 14th, 2010

The heat of the summer months is starting to abate, which means that late afternoons and evenings can be enjoyed outdoors.

This past Saturday, thousands of Tucsonans did just that. They converged on the heart of the city for 2nd Saturdays Downtown.

This event combines street performances, arts and crafts tables, and business specials. The 9/11 edition included a high energy acrobatic performance by Les Avenge...

Website Redesign: Nutritional Sciences Department

September 13th, 2010

The University of Arizona Department of Nutritional Sciences website has a new look. It's based on an oft-heard bit of dietary advice: "Eat Your Colors."

The site's seven sub-navigation bars reflect the colors of healthful foods:

  1. The default sub-navigation adopts a pink Persimmon theme. It points to the department's UA partners and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
  2. For People, we're talking purple. As in Grape. This is where you can meet the department's faculty, staff, and students.
  3. Research utilizes a green Kiwi theme and covers faculty research interests, diet and lifestyle interventions, and clinical trials.
  4. Undergraduate and graduate Degrees sport a brown Whole Grain look.
  5. Think Orange for Outreach and learn about the department's community engagement efforts.
  6. Centers employs a Blueberry theme to showcase the Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition.
  7. News repeats the Persimmon theme and summarizes faculty achievements.

This website redesign incorporates my photos of the University of Arizona campus and a variety of healthful activities and foods.

Here is a before-and-after look at the Department of Nutritional Sciences' site...

Website Design: Improving Tumor Radiation Response

September 7th, 2010

Dr. Randy Burd is on the faculties of the University of Arizona, Holy Family University, and Thomas Jefferson University. His research focuses on the effectiveness of radiation therapy in cancer treatment, while minimizing the effects of radiation on normal tissue.

I just designed a laboratory website that showcases his research, teaching, publishing, and software applications development. This website design project included the creation of a customized background that emphasizes his work with bioactive food components like quercetin, C15H10O7.
